Erin Andrews’ DWTS Photo Diary: The Finale Look Channeled Princess Elsa (and Carrie Bradshaw!)

Published

on

Dancing with the Stars co-host Erin Andrews has shared every single style step throughout season 21 with us. She stepped out of her comfort zone on more than one occasion, with micro minis and major sparkle, and has given us new meaning to the term “hair envy” with her signature sexy/disheveled waves. And even though the season’s sadly come to an end (Bindi Irwin won last night!) Andrews kept to her word and saved the best dress for last (we’d say any dress that makes a girl feel like a Princess and Carrie Bradshaw is a home run). Read all about her showstopping look straight from her and her glam squad, below!

“This was an amazing way to end the season,” Andrews tells PeopleStyle about her Kayat gown. “It was elegant, full of sparkle and looked so fantastic under those Christmas decorations!”

Even though she told us she’d locked in her finale look well in advance, she actually needed to make a last-minute swap. “We had actually planned on doing a totally different look for our final show. We had a gorgeous red gown picked out but [stylist] Alyssa [Greene] ended up bringing this other gown as a backup and we instantly changed our minds,” she shared. “Most of our show was out under the Christmas tree at the Grove. My entire team just felt the backup gown was perfect under the lights and decorations. Ryan [Randall] added a gorgeous piece in the back of my hair and Alyssa bedazzled me up with sparkling diamonds. Everyone was telling me I looked like Elsa on stage and anytime I can pull off a Disney princess look, I will take that!”

Greene says that she wanted Erin to “sparkle like a little ornament” on the festive finale stage and of course, the best way to style such a high-glam gown is with some major bling! “The rings by Pasquale Bruni were so fabulous paired with chandelier Butani earrings that cascaded down from her ears, which made the look extra glamorous,” she says. “Erin loved how this dress would look against the beautiful festive lights on stage.”

Even though the outfit appeared to come together seamlessly, behind the scenes it was a little more frazzled. “This final show was so tricky because I literally had to run from the Grove to our DWTS studio. It was insane,” Andrews shares. “I was picking up my dress, running through the crowd and doing a little screaming. I was trying to envision Carrie Bradshaw as I was running in heels, and praying not to trip over myself and gown. It definitely was comical; glad we are all laughing about it now!”

For hairstylist Ryan Randall his main goal was to compliment the gown with an equally sophisticated and fun hairstyle. “Being a lover of texture and whimsy, I created three textured braids that weren’t too overworked but still playful,” he explains. To get that effortless look, he trusted Oribe Dry Texturizing Spray, a bit of Kevin Murphy Powder Puff to grip the root and L’Oréal Elnett hairspray to lock the whole look in place.

“The thought of an old Hollywood moment was also intriguing — we added a deconstructed necklace for a bit of sparkle and glamour,” he says of the finishing accessory (which gave her a touch of another famous blonde, Jennifer Lawrence, as well!).

The classic, glamorous vibe also carried over into her makeup as well. “I wanted to add color to her silver princess look,” makeup artist Lisa Ashley shares. “I coated her eyes in an ice blue shade with silver shimmer and grey matte shadows.”

But the real trick was lining the eye with Urban Decay’s 24/7 Glide-On Pencil in “Sabbath” and using an Ardell strip of lashes accented with cluster lashes by EZ Lash to make them really stand out.

For the rest of the beauty look, Ashley used “a hint” of red on the cheeks, Tom Ford Shade and Illuminate Sheen on the top of the cheek bone and Girlactik Pout Shine Lipgloss in “Stunning” on top of a sheer red lip.
