Gwen Stefani’s Signature Red Lips Have Gone Missing (and We Have a Theory as to Why)

Published

Throughout Gwen Stefani‘s 13-year marriage to Gavin Rossdale, she was rarely spotted without her stand-out red lips. But with Blake Shelton as her new love interest, her signature look seems to have taken a backseat. Trust us — we’ve been taking notes.

Sure, she still wears a red lip here and there — but on this past season of The Voice (when she was guaranteed to be with Shelton all night) and on recent red carpets, her signature scarlet pout was hardly seen.
Instead, Gwen’s been experimenting with nude and pale pink shades.

But that’s not all she changed — her hair switch-ups show she’s going through a down-for-whatever beauty evolution. They also prove that she’s definitely taking a step outside of her comfort zone.

So what’s going on? In her 2012 Harper’s Bazaar cover story, Stefani revealed that Rossdale preferred her made up. “I like to make my husband like me more,” she said of Rossdale. “And he likes it when I’m wearing makeup.”

And then, in 2013, Rossdale made it very clear to Ryan Seacrest that he had no problem with her go-to shade.

“No, I don’t worry about [getting Gwen’s lipstick on me]. There’s plenty of ways [to get it off] — soap and water is fine. It’s all worth it!”

Could her signature scarlet shade be a reminder of Rossdale? Is Shelton influencing her new beauty MO? Unclear, but considering that Stefani was seen wearing red again while at a football game with her new man, we’re guessing she’s just all about experimenting right now.
