Luke Christopher: Original Or Mimic?

Published

22-year-old Rapper, Singer – Songwriter; Luke Christopher is rising to the top on the billboard charts peaking in at #28. Originally from San Fernando Valley, California and later relocating to Los Angeles, California where he was accepted by The University of California but declined in order to pursue his music career. Luke started recording tracks with his brother and cousin in Garage band. Oct 2013 Luke released his third EP entitled: The Wonder Years Pt. l, a self-produced album containing six songs; Alphabet, Hell of a Rhyme, The Weekend, Limousines, Real Night, The Material. Almost a year later he released a fourth EP entitled: TMRW, TMRW Pt. ll containing 15 tracks. With the exception of four songs Luke produced all songs on his EP with co-producers such as: Foster The People, Waver Racer, and Shlohmo just to name a few. Luke was an opening act for Big Sean, in a concert in Princeton University March 2015, also appearing at the 2015 BET awards where he was featured a rising talent at the Flava Zone.

While listening to Luke’s albums, there’s definitely no question about him being a talented artist. However, as I continued to listen to his album, I couldn’t help but to hear a mixture of several different artists: J. Cole, Drake, Bryson Tiller, and Omarion. Now, I believe that it’s okay to idolize someone because of their talents, but this goes back to my last article: “What Happened To The MUSIC in MUSICian?” What happened to originality? What happened to being an artist, “being different”, ex: Andre 3000. The definition of ORIGINALITY. He’s branded himself, he has his own style of music, his voice is unique, and his fashion is definitely unique. Pretty much every song I listened to on Luke Christopher’s albums have another artist sound, flow, and beat. Originality is the key to become and remain successful.
