Why This Video Vixen’s Response To Her Offensive Costume Is Garbage

It’s one thing to be wrong and admit your fault. It’s another to be wrong, called out on it, and then proceed to point fingers.
As expected, Halloween festivities have begun and the offensive costumes are already rolling out. The most recent offense goes to Kaylin Garcia, the Miami-bred work out enthusiast who’s most known for her relationship with rapper, Joe Budden.
The 20-something posted a photo of herself dressed as a Native American in a feather headpiece, fringe mini skirt and beaded heels. Now, to the clear eye, this would immediately set off red flags as a no-go. We’d like to think we live in a world socially sensitive enough to know dressing up as a person from a distinct culture from which you don’t belong to, is not OK.
But ohhh, no. Ms. Garcia, had no restraint. And in fact, clapped back at commenters who disagreed.

“To ALLLLL the Native Americans commenting on my s**t, saying it’s offensive or how dare me,” she starts off. “This is me embracing your culture I’m not doing or saying a damn thing to offend yall. I’m in a freaking costume for crying out loud. Yall take s**t too serious, every year it’s some s**t. Yall collectively get a check just cause you’re Native American. WTF yall complaining about. If the COSTUME bothers yall that much then yall COLLECTIVELY need to get together and write a letter to Party City to discontinue all Native American costumes. I love yall but just get off my IG with BS if it aint all love. #PartyCityStartingProblems”
The model/actress/workout guru does have one thing correct, Party City should be more sensitive to cultures and maybe consider what they offer in stores. But let’s look at this response from another angle, or say, another race.
If Garcia, who comes from a single-parent home with rough beginnings and has an affinity toward twerking, were culturally appropriated, how would it look? Would she be offended if someone took the way she dresses or physical features she has, and made a costume out of it? Would this costume seem like a dig to her very existence?
We’re not exactly sure how she would react, but we do know as someone of color, she should have had more foresight in seeing the problem with the costume. And as an adult, she should have more sense than to blame a mega-conglomerate for forcing her hand in picking this costume.
Again, we told you all about basic costume ideas. But maybe we should take another stab at this so everyone understands it’s not kosher.
