Pandora Buys Ticketfly

Pandora, the internet radio streaming service, has purchased the ticketing company Ticketfly, as The New York Times reports. Ticketfly, a previously independent company that sold more than $500 million of tickets in 2014, will be acquired for $450 million in cash and stock. (The impending sale was initially reported by ReCode.)
The acquisition of Ticketfly, which is one of Ticketmaster’s larger competitors, represents Pandora’s pointed move into the live music industry. “Ticketfly and Pandora are a perfect fit: two companies that are extraordinarily passionate about music and improving the experience for the entire ecosystem,” Andrew Dreskin, the co-founder of Ticketfly, said in a press release. “The combination of Ticketfly and Pandora will be a marketing and event discovery powerhouse, giving venues and promoters unprecedented access to a massive and targeted audience of nearly 80 million music fans.”
Brian McAndrews, Pandora’s CEO, added: “Over the past 10 years, we have amassed the largest, most engaged audience in streaming music history. With Ticketfly, we will thrill music lovers and lift ticket sales for artists as the most effective marketplace for connecting music makers and fans.”
The Pitchfork Music Festival is among the many venues and events that has sold its tickets through Ticketfly.
