Friendships from childhood rarely make it past the age of 18. Once high school ends, many of us go separate ways and pursue separate interests. But for Damoli (22), Melanee (22), and Kourtney (21) —three ladies that make up the music group, DMK— their friendship has lasted beyond their teens. For 12 years to be specific.

Kourtney’s grandfather, Levi Stubbs of the Motown group The Four Tops, was a huge influence to the girls. Once you hear their smooth, sync harmonies it becomes apparent that they’re a product of R&B’s finest.

“Coming from Motown, everybody has that soulful voice so, of course we want to keep that going coming from Detroit,” Kourtney told The Source. “It’s so important because it made such a big impact on the industry and I think that a lot of artists are kind of veering away from that. We really want to stay true to it because it’s an important genre for music and expression.”

For the three girls, 2016 is shaping up to be an amazing year. In addition to their self-titled EP out this year and an album next year, DMK appeared on Empire on Wednesday, May 11, as the “FOX Empire New Artist”.

But we put aside music talk for a second, to chat beauty with the girls— see what they said in their Blazin’ Beauty Test below.

1. If my personality were a lipstick shade it would be called:
Melanee: “Diva”, not because I’m a diva but because the color is kind of a burgundy settled color and it looks really nice on my brown skin.
Kourtney: “Spite”, which is a Pinkish, purple kind of color and it’s Very girly so it fits my personality.
Damoli: “Cyber”, because I wear a lot of dark colors and it matches my attire and personality.

2. My biggest beauty indulgence is:
Melanee: Trying to make sure my eyebrows are in tact because I don’t have really thick brows so I like to give the illusion that they’re full.
Kourtney: Make-up in general. We took a makeup class and since we’ve taken that class I’ve had an obsession with going into makeup stores like Sephora and buying makeup products. I’ve been watching Youtube tutorials and really trying to perfect it.
Damoli: Different hair products. I love trying different shampoos and conditioners. Right now, I’m on a coconut oil kick so everything that I’ve been using has coconut oil in it.

3. The cheapest beauty product in my bag is:
All: Elf Products. Everything’s like $1-5. We love their lip glosses and the beauty blenders. As a group, it’s probably our cheapest product line that we use.

4. Glammed Up or Au Naturale:
All: Au Naturale. If there was a way to put makeup on and it feels like your regular skin, we would be good but we all prefer to be natural.

5. The best piece of beauty advice I’ve ever received is:
Melanee and Damoli: Make sure you wash your makeup off every night.
Kourtney: Use two different foundations to match the different skin tones [on your face] and blend.

6. Three items I never leave home without are:
All: Cell phone, wallet, lips gloss and keys.

7. My hair crush is: And why:
Melanee: Toni Braxton when she had her first album. Her hair was EVERYTHING and not many people can rock that short cut.
Damoli: I follow this girl on Instagram @miccheckk12 She does so many different hairstyles. I have never seen her rock something that didn’t work and she’s not afraid to try styles that aren’t conventional.
Kourtney: Ciara, because her hair is always slayed. She changes her colors, cut, and always switches it up.

The track, a precursor to his highly anticipated album 4eva Us, Neva Them, showcases Dugg’s signature style and lyrical prowess. In the brand new single, produced by FLEXONTHEBEAT, TyMaz, and Marshak, Dugg calls out those who try to ride his wave without putting in the work, cementing his stance in the rap game. The release is accompanied by an official music video directed by Counter Point, where Dugg and his crew dominate the streets and clubs of Detroit, visually reinforcing his message of loyalty and resilience.
