Some very serious questions were answered in the White House Rose Garden today. Yes, Honest the turkey and his turkey alternate, Abe, will live to see another day, thanks to President Obama’s pardon. No, the turkeys didn’t grasp the gravity of the situation, gobbling in the middle of the president’s official pardon. And of course, the Obama daughters gave us plenty of outfit inspiration (what else is new) with their cute, Thanksgiving-y looks.

For the seventh year running, Malia, 17, and Sasha, 14, stood with their dad as he granted a turkey a reprieve from the Thanksgiving table (in line with a tradition that, according to the White House, is 68 years old). And if the idea of a turkey being spared his life isn’t adorable enough for you, check out how tiny the girls were at their first pardon in 2009:

This time next year, Malia will be heading home from college, a prospect that her father says has him “freaked out.” But he’s prepared to give her good fatherly advice before she goes. “Be open to new experiences when you go to college,” he said. “Don’t go to college just to duplicate the same experience you had in high school. Don’t make your decision based on, well, where are all my friends going so that I can do the exact same things with the exact same friends that I did in high school.”
We don’t know how many colleges offer turkey pardoning in front of a national audience, so we think it’s safe to say that anywhere she goes, her experience will be pretty different.
